About me

When I was a teenager, I became obsessed with learning the guitar. I eventually got a music degree, majoring in Jazz guitar, but something was missing from my education. I started to question why I wanted to make music in the first place, and found the typical answers unsatisfying. It seemed like many of my peers and teachers were treating music like an intellectual game. Others seemed focused on being able to "earn a living" through music, which seemed like a fun goal, but what's the point?

So I began to ask "What's the purpose of music?" 

It can build community. It can express truth. It can be a form of therapy. It can bring us into a state of transcendence. It can help us empathise.

I learned these things not from music school, but from engaging with music in real life, and in community. I still have much more to learn.
